Day 6: Gateway, Cron, and Proactive Workflows

Day 6: Gateway, Cron, and Proactive Workflows

Hermes Agent becomes more than a local assistant when it can receive events and wake up on a schedule. Gateway mode handles incoming messages. Cron handles recurring work.

Minimal gateway flow

  1. Receive an event.
  2. Normalize the message.
  3. Route it to the right agent instruction.
  4. Execute with bounded permissions.
  5. Return a concise result.
  6. Log enough context to debug failures.

Good cron jobs

Good scheduled jobs have a clear trigger, bounded scope, and objective verification. Examples include daily project summaries, broken-link checks, inbox triage, dependency report drafts, and uptime checks.

Operational rule

Start with read-only proactive work. Let Hermes Agent observe and summarize before you allow it to mutate systems automatically.

Your task

Design one proactive workflow. Specify the schedule, input sources, allowed tools, expected output, and escalation rule. If the agent is unsure or sees risk, it should ask instead of acting silently.
