Core Features

Hermes Desktop provides a complete Agent capability matrix, from multi-platform connectivity to secure sandbox experimentation, covering enterprise and personal use cases.

🔗

Connect

Lives Everywhere

Unified access to Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, Email, and CLI. Cross-platform shared memory, configure once and use everywhere.

🧠

Remember

Persistent Memory

The agent auto-learns project structure, codebases, and workflows. Generates custom Skills and remembers all conversations and solutions without reconfiguration.

⏰

Schedule

Focused Automation

Natural-language scheduling: scheduled reports, automatic backups, daily briefings run unattended. Supports cron expressions and human language (like "every day at 9 AM").

🤖

Delegate

Tasks Multiplied

Launch isolated sub-agents to handle parallel tasks. Each sub-agent has its own conversation, terminal, and Python RPC scripts. Results are aggregated at the end.

🌐

Search

Browse the Web

Integrated web search, browser automation, vision (OCR + image analysis), image generation (DALL-E / Stable Diffusion), and text-to-speech (TTS).

🛡️

Experiment

Isolated Sandboxing

5 backend options: local process, Docker container, SSH remote, Singularity HPC, Modal cloud functions. Container hardening for secure untrusted code execution.

💡 Tip: Linux users can install via command line or compile from source. Windows users can refer to WSL2 installation if issues arise.

Installation Steps

Choose the installation method for your OS. Desktop version is simpler than CLI version, with a graphical interface.

  • **macOS**: Download DMG file, drag to Applications folder. First launch requires allowing in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  • **Windows**: Download EXE installer, double-click to run, follow the wizard. If SmartScreen warning appears, click "More info → Run anyway".
  • **Linux**: Run `curl -fsSL https://hermes.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bash` in terminal. Auto-detects distro and installs dependencies.

After installation, first launch will guide you through API Key configuration (supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Chinese GLM, Kimi, and 300+ models).

Quick Start

Get started with Hermes Desktop in 3 steps after installation. Desktop version provides a graphical config interface, more intuitive than CLI.

  • **Step 1 - Configure Models**: Open Settings → Models, add your API Key (recommended: Claude / GPT-4 / Chinese GLM-4).
  • **Step 2 - Choose Backend**: Settings → Backends, select "Local" or "Docker" (container isolation, more secure).
  • **Step 3 - Start Conversation**: In the main interface, enter a task like "Read all files in current directory and summarize" or "Write a Python script for me".
  • **Advanced Features**: Configure Telegram / Discord integration (Settings → Integrations), enable scheduled tasks (Settings → Scheduler).

💡 Beginners should start with Local backend to familiarize with features, then switch to Docker sandbox mode for better security.

Desktop vs CLI Version

Hermes offers both desktop and CLI versions. Desktop is better for GUI operations and platform integrations, CLI is better for script automation and server deployment.

🖥️ Graphical Interface

Desktop provides full GUI. Configure models, manage Skills, view logs more intuitively, no need to memorize command parameters.

📱 Native Platform Support

Desktop has built-in Telegram / Discord / Slack integration config panels. CLI requires manual config file editing.

⏰ Visual Scheduling

Desktop provides graphical interface for task scheduling. See all scheduled task statuses and logs directly.

🔄 Auto Updates

Desktop supports one-click update checking and installation. CLI requires manual `hermes update` execution.

🛡️ Sandbox Backend Switching

Desktop allows one-click switching between Local / Docker / SSH backends in Settings. CLI requires config file modification.

📊 Real-time Monitoring

Desktop shows real-time Agent status (CPU, memory, API call count). CLI requires checking log files.
